Dr’s William Griffin, Kimberly Greenwell and Sonia Tao have taken hundreds of hours of continuing education to enable them to offer the above services. For this reason, it is rare for a patient to require the help of a specialist for treatment, although when this is necessary, we work with the best specialists in Newport News, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Hampton and Poquoson.
In addition to general dental services, City Center Dental Care provides many specialized forms of treatment to help keep you healthy and looking good. Following is a partial list of the treatment options that are all available in our office (please click on each topic for further reading):
For some patients, dentistry can be rather difficult to endure. Perhaps there was a difficult dental experience early in life, or maybe a low threshold of discomfort. Whatever the reason, such patients can be very well-served through the enhanced comfort available with sedation dentistry.
Of all the ways to replace missing teeth, there is none that feels more natural, or lasts longer on average, than with dental implants. A dental implant can replace an individual tooth, or multiple implants can be used to replace several teeth
If the placement of implants is successful and they become firmly attached to the surrounding bone, the next step is to utilize the implants in replacing missing teeth. This can be done in a number of ways: implant crowns, implant bridges, implant-assisted dentures, and implant-supported fixed appliances.
Both adults and children can benefit from having their teeth moved into better position, a dental discipline known as orthodontics. Sometimes the primary purpose of orthodontic treatment is functional, helping the patient to improve the way they chew or function. Sometimes the primary purpose of orthodontic treatment is cosmetic, to put the teeth into a position and alignment that makes them more attractive.
Perhaps the most popular way to have teeth moved is with Invisalign. In this method clear aligners are used to move teeth where they belong. Advanages of this method include the fact that they are clear, making treatment virtually undetectable to others, and also the fact that teeth are much easier to clean during invisalign treatment than they are with bands and brackets on the teeth.
Snoring/Sleep Apnea Treatment -
Patients who snore can be an annoyance to themselves, as well as those trying to sleep nearby. However, many people don’t realize that snoring can be a sign of a more serious problem called Sleep Apnea. In this condition, a person actually stops breathing during sleep, which greatly reduces the amount of rest they get, and predisposes them to other medical problems.
The most complicated joint in the body is the Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ). There are three main reasons for this. First, the TMJ is controlled by multiple muscles acting at different angles to allow for opening and closing. If any one of these muscles is not working properly, then it can throw off the entire range of movement. Secondly, the TMJ is a bilateral joint – there are two of them, and the operation of one is inseparably tide to the other. Thirdly, the TMJ is significantly affected by how the teeth come together, such that if a person’s bite is asymmetrical or lopsided, then the joint can be harmed over time. For all these reasons, it can be a real challenge to diagnose and treat TMJ problems.
Veneers -
Perhaps the most stunning way to transform a smile in a relatively short period of time is with porcelain veneers. Teeth can be made longer, shorter, straighter or whiter, in just a matter of a few weeks. In addition, teeth that have received veneers tend to be more resistant to stain, since the surface is so smooth.
One-Visit Crowns (CEREC® Technology) -
Today’s modern technology actually allows crowns to be made in just one appointment! In prior years a crown was made by preparing a tooth, making an impression, and sending the impression to the lab so the permanent crown could be made. During the week or two while the crown was being made, a patient would wear a temporary crown, which was susceptible to breaking or coming off early. Once the permanent crown was ready, the patient would return to have it cemented in place. However, now there’s an easier way, sometimes referred to as a one-visit crown.
